Mission

People helping people find and follow Jesus

Vision

Become a rapidly reproducing movement of churches with multiple networks serving one another to go farther faster.

Values

1

Reject Religion

We reject a rule-keeping peer-pleasing religion that abandons an authentic relationship with God. Jesus’ primary message was grace, partnered with faith, replaces religion.

Romans 14 • Galatians 2:19-21

2

Encounter Jesus

We desire a deeply personal and spiritual connection with God for everyone. Only as we encounter Jesus are we transformed into who we were created to be.

Acts 9 • John 1:12

3

Live lights on, windows open

We don’t hide who we really are or what we are dealing with. We say what needs to be said and do what needs to be done to help each other move forward in our faith.
1 John 1:9 • James 5:16

4

Connect in community

We invite everyone to step out of isolation and into the beautiful mess of community. It is only in the context of relationship that discipleship happens.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 • Hebrews 10:24-25

5

Play our part

We all serve in Christ’s Church to fulfill our part in God’s Kingdom mission. We see all of our lives as lived on mission everyday displaying and celebrating the Gospel of Jesus.
1 Peter 2:9 • 1 Corinthians 12

6

Grow in generosity

We urge everyone to live generously in all aspects of life – time, talent, treasure. We know that generosity leads to greater personal happiness and makes the world a better place.
2 Corinthians 8 • Matthew 6:19-24

7

Embrace Change

We willingly and quickly adapt and flex in our methods across all ministries. There are no “sacred cows.” Healthy things grow, and growth will always produce change.
Matthew 9:17 • 1 Corinthians 9:19-23

8

Reveal the Kingdom of God

We are to bring the kingdom of God (the values and attributes of God) into the Kingdom of this world. We see ourselves as “sent” people into every sphere of our society.
2 Corinthians 5:11-21 • Matthew 5:13-16

Plants & Mergers

Our approach to church plants & church mergers

The Community Church Movement’s commitment to mergers and new churches is comprehensive and requires an approach that goes far beyond merely staging new church services in new communities or existing church buildings. In order for our efforts to have long term success, we understand that we must understand and commit to multiple dynamics.

Church Merger

The dynamic of a church merger is unique and delicate. The questions, concerns, and fears of a church and its leadership must be addressed honestly, openly, and thoroughly.  Helping an existing church to understand and embrace the value of extending its legacy by helping to launch new churches is critical and, in many regards, life giving to the merging church.  The Community Church Movement has an established history as a church that understands this dynamic and assists leadership and church members as they transition into their new seasons and roles, whatever that may be.  With multiple years and multiple mergers in our history, we are prepared to navigate the complexities of merging in a way that is transparent, understanding, and – most importantly – Kingdom-minded.

We believe there is a crucial relationship between church mergers and new church plants/pastors. In many cases, the seeds that serve as the catalyst for new churches are nurtured from the wisdom of church leaders who understand the value of merging. By merging into a growing and thriving community of churches, it’s possible to carry a church’s legacy forward by providing the facilities and resources necessary to launch new local churches.

Merger Success Stories

Torrey Pines Church

Over its nearly 50 year history, Torrey Pines Christian Church had been a thriving community of faith. Like many similar churches, it began as a small church that grew as its leadership and members reached more and more people for Jesus. But as sometimes happens over the lifespan of a church, growth eventually plateaued and in time was replaced by a season of decline.

Venice Church

Although the church had a long and vibrant history that spanned nearly 80 years of sharing the Gospel with the residents of western Los Angeles, the church had reached a crossroads. Attendance was down to less than fifty, giving could barely cover operating expenses, let alone much needed facility maintenance and upkeep.

Contact us about potential Merger

If you are a church leader who wants to find out more about what’s involved with a church merger, we would love to talk with you. There’s no obligation, no commitment, and no expectation on our part; our hope would simply be to answer your questions and help you determine whether or not a merger would be right for you.

New Church Plants

Our big dream is that by the year 2038 we will develop & deploy (Leadership Multiplication) disciples & leaders into more than 50 new communities to start churches to share the Jesus Story with every man, woman and child (Gospel Saturation). We will be a catalyst to a movement of more than 50,000 people living on the Jesus mission.

To accomplish this dream we know it will take all kinds of different churches in all kinds of different communities to reach all kinds of different people. So we partner and plant churches across many different denominations, affiliations and expressions.

Residency Programs

We train up church planters and teams through several partnerships and processes. Our Residency Program offers residencies in 3 unique tracks – pastor planters, worship leaders, and church leaders. Click the button below to learn more.

San Diego Church Plant Movement

Being Kingdom-minded means not working alone. The Community Church Movement is a catalyst member of the San Diego Church Plant Movement, a collaborative partnership of San Diego area churches committed to establishing new, healthy church plants in our community. By working together, we are able to combine efforts, link arms, and help provide relationships, training, financial and strategic assistance to church planters seeking to establish new local churches in our county.
